Introducing the 2014 Rotman Problem Solving Challenge!

Michael Moses - Assistant Director, Recruitment & AdmissionsHappy new year! As many of you finalize your applications in time for the round 2 admission deadline you might be thinking, “is there anything else I can do to improve my chances of getting in?” Or perhaps you were already admitted and are eager to get a head-start on the Rotman experience.

To cater to those interests and give prospective and incoming students the opportunity to experience Rotman’s unique model-based problem solving approach in action, we are introducing for the second year, the Rotman Problem Solving Challenge!

Here is a clip of some current Rotman students who participated in the event last year, talking about their experience at it:

Beyond the great opportunities and benefits that Michael, Viral, Jonathan and Alex mentioned, some other things you can expect during this year’s Rotman Problem Solving Challenge Weekend:

  • Networking opportunities with current Rotman students, industry professionals and Rotman alumni
  • The opportunity to win a scholarship such as full tuition to the Rotman Full-Time MBA program
  • Experience Toronto with your future classmates

Stay tuned to the Rotman Problem Solving Challenge website in the next few weeks for complete details on:

  • The big, messy, unstructured problem that prospective and incoming students will be tackling
  • Judging Panel
  • Key dates and deadlines
  • When registration is open (while you can see the registration button the page now, it is not live yet. Not to worry; we will announce when we will begin accepting entries!)

Good luck with your submissions and looking forward to seeing you on campus!

  1. I’m a current student of the University of Dhaka and I am very much interested in entrepreneurship and leadership. May I participate?

  2. Hi Michael,

Glad to see that the “Register Now” bottom is working now but still not sure why it does not confirm my registration once I complete the informational form in my online account.
    Thank you for your help,
    Negar

    • Hi Deepak,

If you click to register, that should be sufficient. No need for any additional email follow up. Good luck in the Challenge!

  3. Hi Michael,

I’ve applied for the joint MBA/MGA program with the Munk School and if I’m admitted I will be starting the MGA program in September and the MBA program in 2015. I have a couple of questions:

    1. Are joint program students eligible to participate?
    2. And if so, should I postpone participating in this challenge until next year since I may be in the 2015 intake of the Rotman program? Or should I register for this year?

    Thanks!

    Cheers,
    Mieka

    • Hi Mieka,

You are welcome to attend the non-competition events this year but unfortunately you will only be eligible for the scholarship awards in the 2015 edition of the Rotman Problem Solving Challenge. That is, to be eligible for the Rotman problem Solving Challenge scholarship awards, one needs to be beginning courses at Rotman that year.

  4. Hi Michael,

I have been trying to register from the time your blog post came up. Later, I saw your comment about the registration link not being active. I have been trying to register but it doesn’t seem to work for me. When I click the ‘Register’ button after logging in, it just brings me back to the same page. Then I read that the registration isn’t compatible with Chrome and IE 11, so I tried it with IE 8, still the same result. I don’t know if I have registered or not because I don’t have a confirmation email.

Can you tell me how to proceed?

    • Hello Gayathri,

To clarify, when you tried registering through IE did it bring you back to the “register” page? If it takes you to a “registration complete” page it means we successfully received your registration.

If that still doesn’t work, email us at mba@rotman.utoronto.ca and we will ensure you are registered.

      • Thanks for the reply Michael.

When I tried to register with IE the page timed out, so i tried to register again and this time I got a message saying that I have already registered for this event.

So I guess my registration did go through.
