I’m thrilled to be back in the office after a great holiday break, especially since I’m able to announce some fantastic new scholarship news to kick off 2014!
These new scholarship initiatives are all applicable to students starting at Rotman this September. The School continues to strive to attact the very best talent to Rotman and we believe these new programs will make Rotman even more attractive to the best and brightest candidates from around the world. So here are the details!
Regional Awards – To support the active recruiting our team conducts in key regions around the world, we are extending a $40K scholarship to one exceptional candidate from each of the following regions:
- Canada
- USA/Mexico/Caribbean
- Latin America
- Europe
- Middle East/Africa
- India
- Asia/China
Rotman Problem Solving Challenge Awards – After its successful introduction last year, we are excited to officially expand the awards available to prospective candidates, applicants, and incoming Rotman students who participate in our Rotman Problem Solving Challenge weekend (you can read more about the event here: https://inside.rotman.utoronto.ca/admissions/. We will be offering the following award categories:
- Individual Prizes: First place overall wins a full scholarship ($90K), second place overall wins $40K, third place overall wins $15K and the top individual presentation will receive $10K with the top individual written submission receiving $5K
- Group Prizes: First place group wins $5000/person, second place wins $2000/person and third place wins $1000/person
Forte Foundation Fellowships – As part of our strong committment to increasing female enrollment at Rotman and as a proud member School of the Forte Foundation, we will be selecting two of our top female candidates as Forte fellows – each will receive an entrance award of $40K.
MGA/MBA Award – We have an amazing combined Program with the Munk School of Global Affairs for students interested in earning both a Masters in Global Affairs and an MBA. Until now, there hasn’t been any funding dedicated exclusively to this candidate pool but we are announcing a $30K scholarship for the top MGA/MBA student with funding to be awarded later in the Spring after the final Program application deadline.
All of these Programs represent incremental funding, and we will of course continue all of our existing scholarships which generally range from $10K to more than half tuition. All applicants will be automatically considered when submitting an application for all of our scholarship opportunities (these new awards and existing scholarships.) We recognize the ongoing need to provide competitive entrance awards to Rotman students and are committed to increasing both the percentage of our class receiving an award, and the amounts of awards offered at Rotman. The MBA is a significant, but tremendously positive investment, and I hope these new Programs may represent the opportunity candidates are looking for to make 2014 the year they pursue the MBA!
Hi Niki,
Are the regional awards awarded on a citizenship basis or a country- where-residing basis?
Thank you.
We will consider both country of residence and/or country of citizenship for these awards to maximize the eligibility for candidates. Hope this helps to clarify!
This helps. Thanks, Niki.
HI Niki,
Would you be able to elaborate on the criteria for the Regional Scholarship Awards?
Thanks,
Nitika
As mentioned, the only “criteria” for qualification is either being a resident or citizen of the countries identified in the award categories. Beyond this, these regional awards will go to the applicants with the strongest overall applications (based on intellectual horsepower, experience, team and self management skills). All applicants are automatically considered for all scholarships in parallel to their admissions decision. I hope this helps.
Hi Niki,
For students who have had their decisions in Round 1, will they be reconsidered for the Regional Awards, if they have an admit and a scholarship?
When will the decisions be made for the Regional Awards?
Regards,
Sheena
Hi Sheena,
All candidates (admits and prospective applicants) will be considered for the regional awards and we’ll be making these decisions in June after our final deadline. Hope this helps!
Niki
Thanks Niki. The information is helpful.

Sheena
