Tips on Applying to Rotman After Our Round 1 Deadline

Afro Cruz

It seems like we just started our recruitment season for the fall 2015 intake but our Round 1 deadline crept up on us last week.  If you are among the many strong students who applied for this Round, congratulations!  You will have your decision from our Admissions Committee before the end of this year.  However, if you are one of the students who could not get their applications pulled together for Round 1, here are three tips to get your organized (and submitted!) for Round 2.

1. Order your transcripts from any university level studies you have completed up to now.  This is probably the easiest thing you can do and it often takes the longest, especially for international students.  A reminder that your university must send us your transcripts directly in a sealed envelope in order for transcripts to be considered official.

2. Talk to your references.  If they are dragging their feet on submitting your reference letters, you can let them know that this application process is time sensitive.  Reminding them that the forms are completed on line and done so very quickly may also help to get them moving.  Lastly, don’t forget to remind them that your application to Rotman is important and you will need a strong reference from them to help your candidacy.

3. Write your essays one at a time.  Have them proof read by someone you trust once all of them are complete.  Coming up with 250 words is not a problem but getting your thoughts organized and fitting everything you want to say into 250 words can be challenging.  Take the essay portion of the application one essay at a time so that it is less daunting. Get your ideas into point form and then fill in the blanks.  Once you have written something you are happy with, share the essays with a friend, colleague or partner.  Feedback is important and it will help you with the finishing touches.

Our Round 2 deadline will be January 12, 2015.

Don’t let this deadline creep up on you like Round 1 did!  As you work on your applications, do not hesitate to reach out to our Admissions Team.  We are here to help!  Remember that we review applications on a rolling basis so the sooner you apply the better your chances of getting in – and getting an entrance award – will be!

Good luck and we look forward to reviewing your applications soon!

  1. I also submitted my application on the 3rd of November and have not received any answer yet. I am getting a bit worried and was wondering whether Rotman emails you to tell you whether you have NOT made it to the interview stages? Or do they let you assume you have not passed their decision deadline on the 12th December?

Also, does all admitted applicants have to do an interview? I know other universities where this is true but for Rotman, it does not say whether all applicant are required to conduct an interview with adcom. Anyone have any idea about this?

    Thanks ahead guys!

    • All admitted students will have been interviewed. Also, because of the volume of applications we receive, we get to some applications later than sooner but regardless, if you applied by the round 1 deadline you will hear from us by Dec 12. 🙂

  2. I am applying for round 2. My recommenders and I cannot find instructions on submitting recommendation letters. Please advise where and how my recommenders should submit their referrals. Thank you.

    • Hi Lydia,

The process for us is slightly different than just sending us recommendation letters. What happens is in your application, you note the email addresses of who you wish to be your references. Those references then get an email sent directly to them with a form they are required to fill out, which takes about 20 minutes to complete. The form is then sent directly to us. Note that this means your references do not simply send us a recommendation letter per se; rather they answer a few focused questions that we ask them.

  3. I am mostly applying for round 2 or 3 at the least, I want to know if I can still send in any improvements in my grades or any other things of concern till round 4? or does it all have to be submitted at once?

    • Hi Drishti – everything should be submitted together, however if there is a substantial change in your status you are welcome to let us know.

  4. I would like to know which transcripts would be required in particular.
The highest education I have yet obtained is the Bachelors degree in pharmacy.
So would the transcripts of all semesters of the bachelors degree suffice ?

Also I could not find the the link to view the contents of the Pharma/MBA could you help me with the same.
Would applying for the Joint MBA program after the january deadline be an issue as my university requires another 10 days to handover the transcripts.

    Thank you

  5. Hi,

    Thanks.

  6. I am applying to the Round 2 deadline – Jan 12, 2015.

My college/university will not be able to send the transcripts by the deadline. Please advise if scanned copies of official transcripts will be accepted if they are sent by mail. Also, please help me with the email id it needs to be sent to.

    • Thanks for your question. You can upload your unofficial transcripts (scanned copies) right into your application. From there, you will need to arrange for your official documents to be sent to the University of Toronto – from your institution directly. If you have further questions, please don’t hesitate to send them to mba@rotman.utoronto.ca

  7. Hi,

The status for both Reference Request shows sent..but my recommenders have not received any notification. I submitted my application on 12th January,2015 and the request sent date is displayed as 11th January,2015.

    Regards,
    Tanuja

    • Hello Tanuja,

Perhaps the requests ended up in the recipients’ junk mail folders? If your references are still experiencing issues getting the reference request emails I’d recommend emailing mba@rotman.utoronto.ca and they might be able to help.
