Awesome ways to get support from our Career Centre

Dimitra TsalpourisOver the last couple of years, our Career Centre has really stepped up its game and is helping our students explore career opportunities in new and innovative ways. Here’s a sample of some of the cool services that our Career Centre offers!

1) Your Career Coach: Your Career Coach is assigned to you at the beginning of the program and remains with you throughout your time at Rotman. Your Coach is there to help your prepare your job hunting strategy, work on your resume, help you with your cover letters, and also conduct mock interviews with you. It’s a personalized process and your Coach really gets to know you and your profile during your one-on-one appointments. (Added bonus? Your membership to the Career Centre is lifelong and FREE!)

2) Your Industry Advisors: The Advisors are busy at work helping to bring recruiters to Rotman and increase the number of job opportunities for students.

3) Career Discovery Week: This is an important week for students at Rotman because it’s the time when you’ll get exposure to a variety of different industries and functions. Students are invited to attend information sessions/workshops on the job market and are educated on strategies and tactics to conduct a job search both on campus and off.

4) Group Coffee Chats: The Career Centre facilitates connections for students by areas of interest with small group coffee chats and one-on-one connections with key alumni and professionals.

5) Career Treks: These are small group trips that students can sign up for and visit different regions locally, across Canada, and the US. In one of my previous blog posts, I talked about the Career Trek to Silicon Valley, the preparation students had to undergo and the companies that they visited. Some of the Career Treks offered this year took students to New York, Silicon Valley, Calgary, Vancouver, and Montreal.

6) Industry Clubs: Rotman’s student-run clubs also play a key role in your career exploration by providing you with industry exposure and interview preparation. Each club will organize various events, case competitions, and guest speakers. The clubs also work very closely with the Career Centre to connect employers with the students.

As you utilize all of the above resources and explore your next career path, you’ll want to keep the following 3 points top of mind: always be prepared, know your personal brand and your value proposition, and be confident in yourself.

As always, let us know if you have any questions!
