{"id":55,"date":"2017-01-10T18:29:10","date_gmt":"2017-01-10T18:29:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/inside.rotman.utoronto.ca\/access\/?page_id=55"},"modified":"2021-07-28T16:38:13","modified_gmt":"2021-07-28T16:38:13","slug":"home","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/inside.rotman.utoronto.ca\/access\/home\/","title":{"rendered":"Why join the club?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>So, you might be wondering &#8220;Why does the school even need an accessibility club?&#8221; or &#8220;If I&#8217;m not in a wheelchair, I probably don&#8217;t need to discuss accessibility.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, according to the CDC, <strong>\u201ca disability is any condition of the body or mind (\u2026) that makes it more difficult for the person with the condition to do certain activities (\u2026) and <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>interact with the world around them (\u2026).\u201d<\/strong> This means all sorts of visible and invisible disabilities, including permanent or short-term mobility, hearing, vision, cognition, learning, and psychological, among others. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Accessibility is an important topic if you&#8217;re dealing with anxiety, a learning disability or even a temporary injury<\/span>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:87px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/inside.rotman.utoronto.ca\/access\/files\/2017\/01\/rewyzquwaqy-jonathan-pendleton-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-83\" width=\"461\" height=\"461\" srcset=\"https:\/\/inside.rotman.utoronto.ca\/access\/files\/2017\/01\/rewyzquwaqy-jonathan-pendleton-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/inside.rotman.utoronto.ca\/access\/files\/2017\/01\/rewyzquwaqy-jonathan-pendleton-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/inside.rotman.utoronto.ca\/access\/files\/2017\/01\/rewyzquwaqy-jonathan-pendleton-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/inside.rotman.utoronto.ca\/access\/files\/2017\/01\/rewyzquwaqy-jonathan-pendleton-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 461px) 100vw, 461px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:52px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Accessibility at Rotman and UofT<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Half of all students registered at the UofT in 2018\/2019 experienced some kind of disability, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentlife.utoronto.ca\/department\/accessibility-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Accessibility Services<\/a> at the University of Toronto St. George Campus.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/iVT9uI80V9-yuVCMSZKtaCyfiFchRxDAzB3enx7k3ruxxe5qM7DdBHnA0CUA1KjHcYP4prO8XMQTO6OwPfaZPAtvcQfFEhMuJkLlWPxiwiT28RswggtJssU2J6RlESJqXDuxrNA\" style=\"width: 350px\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the <a href=\"http:\/\/ose.rotman.utoronto.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Office of Student Engagement<\/a> at Rotman, almost 90% of registered students have non-visible or non-evident disabilities and 63% of Rotman students who experienced some form of stress did not seek help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Access to Success is here to change this landscape, by offering a safe space for students and allies to discuss these issues, develop support systems and remove barriers.
