Describing Rotman in three words

Some of you might know this already; I spent most of my October and November in China to meet with some very impressive candidates who are interested in pursuing a Rotman MBA degree. I must say the diversity of the group was interesting; I met with candidates not only from China but from all over the world! I attended many events and the response was overwhelming. Seeing such a brilliant pool of candidates in China assured me that the 2012 intake will be another bright and diverse group!

One of the candidates asked me a compelling question: “Can you please describe Rotman in three words? “ Great question! I thought I should share my answer with all of you: Opportunities, innovative and global.

Opportunities & Global: Opportunities within Canada and outside of Canada are endless at Rotman. For us, a good MBA program should consist of a healthy balance of curricular and extra-curricular activities. When you check our events page, you will see many great guest speaker series and networking sessions listed. When you look at the volume, you can only imagine how busy our students are in the evenings. Aside from these, Rotman’s global outlook allows us to help our students expand their network overseas as well. Our students find opportunities to attend conferences in the US, participate in case competitions in Europe, join international study tours to visit different countries to see how business is conducted in that particular part of the world. For those who are interested in spending more time overseas, we have great exchange programs. Our International Program Services Office (IPSO) is instrumental in all of the international opportunities. You want to work overseas; our Corporate Connections Centre brings great opportunities to help you do your internship in another country. Furthermore, our London Office offers a great summer opportunities through the Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce internship program.

Innovative Our curriculum based on Integrative Thinking has been helping our students immerse themselves in a new way of thinking to create unique solutions to their business problems because after all every business is unique, we cannot afford to use the same old methods that once worked. Curious how this applies to your career? It applies directly! Our Dean Roger Martin describes why he needed to create this thought process as: There are no finance or operations problems, there are business problems, and therefore we need individuals who can become the integrators to solve the problems. Throughout the program, you will learn how to use this unique thinking method in your work on a daily basis. To warm up, read our students’ testimonials to see how they do it!

If all these sound exciting to you, then Rotman is the right address for you. We would like to see individuals who would like to grow and help grow the society they are in regardless of the geography. An MBA education should expose you to the world and give you the business knowledge in the most practical way possible. We are looking forward to seeing you in our vibrant, global community located in the heart of the City of Toronto!
