MAURO PAMBIANCHI

Mauro Pambianchi has been with SmartCentres for over 6 years and currently holds the position of Chief Development Officer.  In that capacity, Mauro is responsible for the company’s development program across the country, including all aspects of development, from land acquisition through to zoning approvals, design development, leasing and construction.  During that 6-year period, Mauro has overseen the groundbreaking of 50 new unenclosed shopping centres which, upon completion, will represent over 20 million square feet of retail leasable area, with a value in excess of $4 billion.

Mauro holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from McGill University, where he graduated with Distinction, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Toronto, where he was also President of the Graduate Business Council and a member of the Faculty Council.

Mauro practiced architecture with a private firm for several years during which time he was involved in the design, production of working drawings and site supervision for a number of projects from small commercial buildings to the relocation of the head office of a multi-national consumer products company. For the last 25 years, Mauro has been involved in commercial and industrial development, many of which were with a national public real estate company, during which time he held progressively senior development positions including Senior Vice-President, Retail Development.  In that capacity, Mauro was responsible for the company’s development and redevelopment activity with an annual budget averaging in excess of $250 million. His accomplishments include a long list of well-known major malls across the country, from greenfield developments to major expansions and redevelopments, including such prominent mixed-use centres as the Toronto Eaton Centre.

The development team under Mauro’s responsibility at SmartCentres includes over 100 dedicated professionals in the Vaughan home office and 3 satellite offices in Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver. These include functional professionals with in-house expertise in land acquisition, engineering, architecture, planning, finance, leasing and construction.  In the last 4 years, this team has been responsible for the development of an average of 4 million square feet of retail floor space per year, in markets right across Canada from Corner Brook through to Prince George.  These projects have ranged from small-market centres of as little as 80,000 square feet of retail area to major regional centres in excess of 800,000 square feet.  Current projects include several multi-level urban centres that will achieve much higher densities and, in some cases, will include mixed-use components catering to community lifestyles.
