Rotman Online Trading Competition 2022

Introduction

The BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab is pleased to present our 10th annual Rotman Online Trading Competition (ROTC). This competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Toronto (St. George, Mississauga and Scarborough campus). Students will participate in teams of two and trade two different cases. The competition will take place online on Friday, January 14, 2022. The top 2 performing teams (4 students in total) will be invited to form the University of Toronto Team at the Rotman International Trading Competition 2022 (RITC 2022), which will take place on Friday, February 25, 2022.

 

Registration

  1. Registration is now open. Registration Deadline: Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at 11:59 pm EST
  2. You must register in teams of 2 people in order to participate. Registrations of teams composed of 1 student only will not be accepted. Only one member needs to register on behalf of the team by completing Step 3 below. 
  3. Register at the following link: ROTC Registration. You will receive an email confirming your registration in the days following your submission of the ROTC Registration. If you do not receive the email confirmation, please email financelab@rotman.utoronto.ca. Please note the University of Toronto will be closed for Winter Holidays from December 22, 2021 until January 2, 2022 inclusive. For registrations and inquiries submitted during this period, you will receive email confirmations and responses after January 2, 2022.
  4. There is no registration fee
  5. You will receive an email 1-2 days before the competition with your Trader ID and Password that will allow you to log-in to the correct RIT server on the competition day. Please do not lose this information as you will not be able to compete without it. ROTC staff cannot assure that Username and Password can be retrieved/reset in case they are lost.

 

Rotman Interactive Trader (RIT)

Rotman Online Trading Competition will be executed using the RIT Software. For traders/competitors who are unfamiliar with this software, the RIT’s official website gives detailed instructions and allows you to download RIT onto your computer.  On the RIT website you will find a demo of the software as well as tutorial videos.

Scoring

The competition will be scored on a team basis. Please refer to the Scoring Methodology contained in the Case Package.

 Competition

The competition will be held online on Friday, January 14, 2022 from 4:00 pm EST to approximately 6:00 pm EST. It will run until each of the heats described in the ROTC Case Package document is completed.

 

Notes

Traders/competitors are required to use their own computers during the competition. Since this is an online competition, internet speed can affect your performance. Each participant is responsible for ensuring the internet connection and stability of the workstation. ROTC staff is not responsible for any network crash or for performance resulting from a competitor’s poor internet connection.
