PRESENTER BIOGRAPHIES

RESPONSIBLE INVESTING and SOCIAL JUSTICE

 

KEVIN RANNEY, Director, Advisory Services, Sustainalytics

Kevin brings 15 years of experience in the fields of Corporate Social Responsibility and Responsible Investing. He has played a key role in the development of Sustainalytics Environmental, Social and Governance research and screening methodologies and has more than 12 years’ experience working with a variety of asset owners and investment managers to incorporate environmental, social and governance considerations into their investment policies, strategies and processes. Kevin also plays a key role in overseeing Sustainalytics’ thought leadership activities.

 

He is a former Board Director of Canada’s Social Investment Organization and a current member of its Policy and Advocacy Committee. He also sits on the Board of Oikocredit Canada, which is one of the largest financiers of microfinance worldwide. Kevin holds a BA from the University of Waterloo and an MA from the University of Notre Dame.

 

He will tell us what socially responsible investing is and why we should care about it.

 

SUCHETA RAJAGOPAL, Investment Advisor, Hampton Securities

Sucheta has been involved in socially responsible investing for over 10 years, advising retail and institutional clients on how to integrate environmental, social and governance concerns into their investment portfolios.  She manages one of the largest exclusively socially responsible investing books of business in Canada.
In 2009, Sucheta co-launched SRI Monitor, a blog covering Socially Responsible Investing

with a focus on Canadian events and issues. As an advocate for SRI, Sucheta is a blogger for SocialFinance.ca and has discussed investing on BNN, CBC Newsworld and IE:TV as well as in various print media including More, Macleans, the Toronto Star and Bullfrog Buzz.

 

She has an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School and is qualified as a Certified Financial Planner and is a graduate of the Canadian Securities Institute’s Professional Financial Planning Program. She is a Certified Investment Manager and a Fellow of the Canadian Securities Institute. A past President of the Social Investment Organization, she has served on the Boards of East End Community Health Centre, Straight Goods and New Experiences for Refugee Women.

 

She will tell us how to invest from a socially responsible position and use investments to affect corporate behaviour.

 

DAVID CLARRY, Vice-President, Corporate Social Responsibility, Hudbay Minerals

David joined Hudbay in February 2011 to support Hudbay’s performance in environment, health and safety, and community relations. Previously, he spent 18 years with Hatch Ltd., an international engineering and consulting firm, ultimately as Director – Climate Change Initiatives. David’s mining related consulting experience includes managing technical support for the Iron and Steel Task Force of the Asia Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate, environmental and social impact due diligence, and business planning.  David’s earlier career included roles related to safety and environment with DuPont and with General Electric.  He holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in engineering from Queen’s University, an MBA from INSEAD, and is a registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.

David is active in the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada, and is on the International Social Responsibility Committee of the Mining Association of Canada.

He will address how companies have handled issues from a justice perspective.
