The Business Design Sprint is the culmination of your Business Design co-curricular activities this fall. Using the tools of Business Design, you and your team will rapidly solve a real live challenge over the course of one week (Nov. 25th – Dec. 2th, 2013). By understanding your customers, building out ideas, and defining business strategies you will create an innovative solution that you will present to sponsors.
How does it work?
First, choose your own team of 4 and submit a video application telling us why your team deserves a spot in the Business Design Sprint (you only have 60 seconds so make it snappy). If you’re one of the 5 lucky teams to be selected, you’ll be given the challenge by our Sponsor on Monday November 25th. You’ll then have 3 days to go out into the world and understand your target customer on a deeper level.
Then get ready for 3 action-packed days of needfinding, ideation, prototyping, and strategy. From Friday evening to Sunday afternoon, your team will use the tools of Business Design to create an innovative solution that solves your challenge. Rotman DesignWorks’ coaches will be there to provide a road map, lend you a hand, and give your team a push. And yes, food and snacks will be provided. Finally, on Monday December 2nd, your team will share their results during a ‘pitch happy hour’ with the Sponsor!
What’s in it for me?
You’ll get hands-on experience solving a real innovation problem using Business Design. This will increase your confidence and abilities while deepening your knowledge of Business Design. The Sprint can be used as a differentiated story to share with potential employers and included in your work portfolio. Open to all 2YR and 3YR students. No pre-requisites required.

How do I apply?
1. Assemble your own team of 4 current Rotman MBA students. *CHANGE: Teams no longer need to include a 1st and 2nd year student to qualify. Teams can be made up of students from a single year.
2. Submit a 60 second video that tells us why your team deserves a spot in the Business Design Sprint. The video must included all 4 team members and should help us get to know each one of you better.
3. Upload the video to youtube.com and send the link to the video to Alpesh Mistry (Alpesh.mistry@rotman.utoronto.ca) by November 11th, 5:00 pm.
Teams will be notified of their acceptance on November 15th. A total of 5 teams will be chosen.
