Capital Markets Design Sprint

  • by

Capital markets continues to fall behind the financial services industry in hiring and retaining female employees – who leave capital markets at a much faster rate than men. This so-called “leaky pipeline” exacerbates the lack of diversity at VP and executive levels. The Institute for Gender and the Economy (GATE) and Women in Capital Markets (WCM) want you to find a solution.

We invite teams of four to tackle the problem of career longevity in capital markets by providing solutions using business design at the Capital Markets Design Sprint on October 1, 2018, 5:00pm -8:30pm.

Students will be asked to: 1) identify what they believe is causing women to exit at faster rates than men, and 2) develop a solution to overcome that challenge. Participant will have the opportunity to present in front of a panel of judges comprised of senior executives from BMO, Canaccord Genuity, Citibank Canada, HSBC, Mackenzie Investments, Polar, RBC, Scotiabank, and TD!

The winning team will spend one hour on the trading floor with RBC’s Head of Canadian Equities!  Everyone gets a chance to work on a tough problem and interact with leaders from Toronto’s capital markets!

Note: This is not just a “women’s” issue, it’s an “everyone” issue. Therefore, we highly encourage gender diversity on teams. If you are having a difficult time forming a team, sign up solo and we’ll match you with other contenders!

Register on RWorld! Registration ends on September 24, 2018. For more details, contact cmdesignsprint@rotman.utoronto.ca.
