Clubs Fair FAQ

Thank you to everyone who came by the BTA table at the clubs fair! The BTA executives have compiled a few of the most common questions below. If you still have more questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to one of us throughout the year!

Q: How will BTA help to boost my career?
BTA looks to address Rotman students’ careers through 5 main categories:
– By offering networking events,
– Through our new BTA Academy content,
– Through hands-on experiences via Case Competitions,
– By giving students the opportunity for 1:1 coaching via our Mentoring program, and
– Via continuous communication from the executive team.

Q: How many events do you have?
We’ve planned 14 events for the year! Find out more about these events and get the full list at our kick off in September.

Q: How many case competitions will you host?
We have three case competitions planned:
1. One with a tech department of a large company – last year our major sponsor was TD Bank. We have not finalized our major sponsor for this year yet, but will announce details soon!
2. One with Siimpli financial (direct banking), a collaboration between BTA, RMA and REMA on acquisition strategies using new technology in the financial sector.
3. One with RENRA, to work with the Tech component of a Renewable Resources company.

Q: How can an MBA work in Tech (“also, I don’t want to code anymore”)?
In SO many different ways! Coding may be a component of how a major tech firm is built, but the people behind the company create the backbone of that company. You’ll find that in many roles that you transition into, knowledge of coding basics is helpful, but coding is not necessary. Your MBA will provide you will a variety of tools that you can use in the workplace to leverage your teams’ strengths and build an even strong company, both in and out of the code.

Q: What if I want to work in a Tech company but not in a tech department (e.g. a JD/MBA interested in working in Legal in Tech companies)?
BTA can connect you to several tech department/companies from Toronto. Although the roles they will be actively looking are related to tech, you can always reach out to them through our events, while you learn more about this world (which will give you a unique advantage when applying to these roles!).

Q: Are you working with any healthcare companies?
At this time we do not have any healthcare companies booked, but are actively working on expanding the types of industries we are inviting to our events. Healthcare is an industry that we see a lot of potential in, and we hope to be able to introduce more healthcare tech to the Rotman community!

Q: Can you share your summer experience?
Absolutely! Rotman’s foundations are built on community, and all of the executives and second years are happy to share our summer experiences with you. Look out for emails this September with Calendly links to meet with our executive team, as well as coffee chat opportunities with second year students.

Q: Do you support analytics?
Yes, indirectly. All of our skills and workshops involve some level of analytics, and you’ll be learning more analytics tools in your statistics courses. In the winter/spring semester, the BTA academy will also be releasing some content highlighting use of and tools used in analytics. While there are no BTA events scheduled for analytics at this time, we will have content to support it!

Q – Which companies will you be working with?
To be released at our club kick off! Some companies we have worked with in the past have included: TD Bank, IBM, Coinberry (2018-2019)
