Maria Fernanda Gomez

Co-President 

Background: Strategy

I’m highly curious, a fast learner, and a great storyteller. Before MBA, I focused on Strategy and Innovation in the Financial Industry, looking over the customer relationship in large companies (+500M in revenue). During the summer, I interned at CIBC managing the Bank’s Digital Strategy. I’m especially interested in companies with a global reach, as my ease of learning languages and cultural immersion are key assets for multinational and regional operations. My passion for innovation and entrepreneurship has led me to develop various side projects, including two podcasts and a traveling blog. 

Fun Fact: I hiked Mt Kilimanjaro

Background: Product Management

I enjoy the feeling of being out of my comfort zone, which was amplified by my experience working in early-stage FinTech start-ups across various Asian countries, where I focused on Product Management and Tech Development. During the summer, I interned in Product Management at ThousandEyes Cisco, delving into the intricate world of digital networks. I also have a passion for problem-solving, which I apply both in my professional work in product development and in my hobby of tackling challenging rock-climbing routes.

Fun Fact: I love scuba-diving and have dived with sharks in Borneo

Background: Product Management & Strategic Planning

I’m passionate about turning tough-complex problems into practical solutions. I’ve been part of the Planning and Strategy team at Mercado Libre and the Product team at DiDi. My latest role was an MBA intern at the product team of Simplii Financial. I’m also a CDL fellow. I’m a fast learner who can make decisions with limited data. I’m eager to pursue a career in product management. In my free time, you can easily find me immersed in an excel file. 

Fan fact: I have the amazing ability to nod off quickly. It even happened once while I was standing

Background: Digital Transformation & Strategy  

I have a solid background in digital transformation and innovation strategy. At PwC, I worked as a Digital Accelerator, implementing automation tools, and at ABinBev, I led digital transformation projects in revenue management. Recently, I’ve completed an internship as Innovation Strategy Coordinator at MLSE Digital Labs, where I got involved in planning new initiatives, collaborated with cross-functional teams, and experienced exciting developments in the sports industry. 

I’m proactive and enjoy collaborating with others. I’m looking forward to further developing my skills in product management and innovation, contributing to the growth of the industry

Fun Fact: I can read a 500 pages book in a day!

PATRICK FUNG

Background: Consulting & Product Marketing

Playing strategy video games at a young age, I grew a budding interest in technology and competition. In this summer, I interned at the GTM team of a Canadian GenAI SaaS startup in Montreal, specializing GTM strategy and execution. Before MBA, I worked at a major consulting firm to lead large-scale digital transformation projects for my clients. I also briefly worked at a stealth startup in Hong Kong, building an innovative insurance blockchain cloud platforms with my team. In my spare time, I love learning about new technology and listening to Podcast.

Fun Fact: I managed to live in France for 5 months with my “un peu français”.

Background: Digital Marketing

I excel in building meaningful relationships with people from different backgrounds and interests. Prior to starting my MBA, I worked in digital marketing for an FMCG company, overseeing their paid media operations in the APAC region. I’m particularly excited about the fintech industry in Canada and the many potential applications it has. Outside of school and work, you’ll mostly likely find me trying out new restaurants in the city. 

Fun Fact: I’m an avid party planner, and once planned a wedding in Australia.

Background: GTM teams at Tech Startups

I’m a passionate startup operator with a strong tech and career development background. I am drawn to companies with a mission to bridge persistent gaps in our society. At leap.club in India, I empowered women to advance their careers through personalized mentorship and strategic networking. Soon after, as part of the Growth team at Plum, an insure-tech startup, I persuaded CXOs and HR leaders to secure inclusive benefits, including same-sex partner, LGBTQ+, and enhanced maternity coverage, in clients’ group health insurance plans. During my summer internship at Impression Ventures, a fintech VC firm, I delved into the world of startup funding, sourcing deals, and screening promising startups. With a proven track record of scaling startups and driving growth, I combine my diverse experience with a commitment to fostering success in the tech and startup ecosystem. 

Fun Fact: My ideal day involves spending hours in a bookstore, diving into various books, and finding inspiration to write my own poetry

Background: Project Management & Product Sales Strategy

With a solid background in Project Management and developing go-to-market strategies in the Tech industry, I’m enthusiastic about diving deep into customers’ needs to develop solutions to drive business impact. Curious to explore more aspects of tech, I joined the FinHub podcast team for content creation and am currently looking for a pivot into Product Management. 

Fun Fact: I do Tarot card readings!

Background: Product Management & Payment Consulting

I’m an excellent communicator and an highly curious individual. Before my MBA, I worked in the Financial Service Industry across different Business Units with emphases on Digital Strategy and Product Management. I completed my  Internship at CIBC as a Technology Leadership Intern in the Analytics and Data Governance Team. With strong interest in payment modernization, I align  my skill to solving problems related to it. I love to sing, play  and watch soccer. 

Fun Fact: I’m scared of heights and would never sky dive.

I am a curious and driven problem solver, adept at bridging complex business strategies with detailed technical requirements. I thrive in ambiguous situations where I can actively shape my environment, construct frameworks, and drive impact. With an engineering background and experience in technical product management at Mastercard, I have effectively led cross-functional teams to successfully scale and migrate major tech products. I am passionate about leveraging my curiosity to drive product innovations, especially within the fintech sector. I’m always intrigued to have deep conversations about technology’s impact on society. In my free time, I enjoy watching movies, reading books, and exploring art galleries. 

Fun Fact: I can speak 5 languages and code in 3.

I’m a go-getter who thrives on bringing visions to life. Hailing from Southeast Asia, I’ve gained extensive experience across various tech roles and industries, specializing in product growth and strategy within the eCommerce, cloud, and digital media spaces. As an avid learner, I’m excited to serve as VP of Case Competitions and am always eager to connect with others. Beyond the Rotman MBA, I enjoy exploring Toronto and creating content that highlights the city’s fun activities.

Yunrong Liu

Director, MMA

Background: Data Science

I’m a driven and innovative individual with a strong foundation in data science and statistical analysis. Before joining the Master of Management Analytics program at Rotman, I focused on machine learning and data mining, achieving high distinction in my undergraduate studies. My experiences range from serving as a Data Scientist at The BRIDGE Lab to my role as a Quality Assurance Analyst at I GOT GAMES Company, where I implemented rigorous testing protocols and collaborated closely with the design team.


I have developed a deep passion for using data to drive insights and solve complex problems. I have a particular interest in projects that combine machine learning and big data analytics, as demonstrated by my work on various academic projects, including a comparative analysis of BERT-based models for NLP tasks.
