Rotman Postdoctoral Opportunity Program

Rotman Postdoctoral Opportunity Program: November 2nd, 2023

The Rotman Postdoctoral Opportunity Program (RPOP) is a program that provides funding to Rotman faculty to increase opportunities for hiring postdoctoral researchers from historically marginalized and underrepresented communities, specifically Indigenous and Black researchers. These awards will provide support for Black and Indigenous postdoctoral researchers to undertake academic work and grow their scholarly profile under the supervision of a Rotman faculty member.

To be eligible for this award, the potential postdoctoral appointee must self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Metis, or Inuit) and/or Black. They will have obtained a doctoral degree in Management or a related discipline, normally within the last five years from the start date of the funding, or by the date that the appointment commences. We welcome applications from scholars specializing in any field of management or related disciplines in which Rotman has faculty resources and expertise to support the postdoc’s professional development.

Funding will be available to support one or two postdoctoral fellows. Each award will provide up to $50,000 to support postdoctoral salary, benefits, and research budget for a one-year appointment. Faculty members are encouraged to augment this amount from other external sources, e.g., to supplement the salary / stipend or extend the term of the engagement.

Applications for funding may be submitted to Joanne Pereira and should include the following:

1. Nominee’s CV
2. A letter from the supervisor: addressing how the nominee meets the eligibility criteria; a description of how the applicant would contribute to the development of a diverse and inclusive learning community at Rotman through her/his teaching, research and/or service and confirming that the nominee intends to accept the offer if funding is made available. The letter should also include a brief statement of research intent, illustrating the synergy between the proposed research and the research goals of the faculty supervisor, as well as the mission of the Rotman School

The deadline for submission of applications is February 20, 2024. The RPOP Awards Committee will evaluate applications for awards based on the following criteria:

• Potential contributions of the proposed research and nominee’s CV.
• Alignment between the research interests/background of the supervisor and nominee, and the anticipated mutual benefits.

After the initial deadline, applications will be accepted and evaluated on a rolling basis.
