The BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management in the University of Toronto is a state-of-the-art facility that focuses on the integration of theory and research with practice. Research databases and real-time access to global financial resources allow students to link classroom lessons to actual securities and markets. In addition, our custom-designed suite of instructional products uses interactive simulations to develop skills for making good financial decisions when faced with uncertainty about future outcomes.

Introducing the groundbreaking initiative at Rotman School of Management—the Rotman Finance Analytics and Decision-Making League (RFADML). This initiative is designed to blend experiential learning with real-world financial challenges and innovations, setting a new standard in finance education.

The goal of participating in RFADML is to achieve great results and enjoy the learning experience. It will amplify the experience because it will include more activities, themes and different kinds of learning experiences that will address skills and theories participants need to have in order to excel in their career. 

HOW DOES IT WORK?

RFADML comprises of active participation in certain Rotman activities and qualification points will be awarded for participation. The qualifying activities are listed below under QUALIFYING ACTIVITIES.

Winners will be announced in August 2025!
Winners of the 2024/2025 qualifying period will be announced in August 2025!

Points will be earned for the University
    • By team ranking – Top 3 only
    • By attendance (1 point per university irrespective of the number of students that attend the event)

Qualification

    • Attend all or any of the 7 events (below) to start earning points.
    • Points will be accumulated from the dates September 1st, 2024 – August 31st, 2025.
    • Registration is not required to participate in RFADML.
    • If you register for any of the 7 qualifying activities, you and your school will be automatically enrolled.
    • Subsequently, you and your school will automatically begin earning points.
    • Rotman will keep track of your attendance and score.
    • Scoring and your school’s ranking will be available online on our website.
    • Scoring will be available on a specific date in which we will announce.

Participate in the seven (7) events below to earn qualifying points.  You will not only be competing for your school’s recognition but for individual recognition as well. NOTE: It is not mandatory to attend every qualifying activity.

Renowned for our flagship event, the Rotman International Trading Competition (RITC), which recently celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2024, and many other competitions such as Rotman Portfolio Management Competition (RPMC), Rotman Online Trading Competition (ROTC), High School Market Simulation Challenge (HSMSC), and the Rotman Market Simulation Challenges series; we’ve established ourselves as pioneers in investment simulations. Our competitions attract top-tier students from across the globe, providing them with an immersive experience in real-time financial market dynamics. Hosted by the esteemed Rotman School of Management, consistently ranked among the world’s finest business schools, and backed by a distinguished finance faculty, we’re situated in the vibrant heart of Canada’s economic hub. FAQ

I want to join the Rotman Market Simulation Challenge (RMSC) to qualify for additional points but my school is not hosting this event. How do I get involved?

In order to take part in this qualifying activity, your school must be hosting this event.  If you are interested in hosting a small or large scale event, please click here for more information to see how simple it is to get involved!

When will the winners be announced?

Sometime in August 2025.  Check back on our website periodically for interim results.

I notice that there are two (2) Excel Hackathons that I can attend. Can I earn points for attending both of these events?

Yes. You will earn points for attending both the Excel Hackathon Fall 2024 and the Winter 2025.

From what dates will points be collected?

Points will be accumulated from the dates September 1st, 2024 – August 31st, 2025.  Should your school host a Rotman Market Simulation Challenge (RMSC) and to qualify for this year’s league, the event must fall within this timeframe.
