2. Video Interview & Creating Your Video Introduction with Ross MacPherson

January 16th, 5 to 6 pm – RSVP in RCareer!

FACT: In today’s job market, many companies (eg. EY Canada, Scotiabank, RBC, Goldman Sachs, Johnson & Johnson, Tim Hortons, and many others) are using video interviewing platforms as part of their recruiting process at the interview stage and the application stage. They’re also applying cognitive assessment software on the back-end to analyze your responses. It’s a game changer and requires specific insight and specific strategies to win.

We’ve invited two experts, Catharine Fennell, CEO of videoBIO and branding expert Ross Macpherson, President of Career Quest, to help you become “video ready” whether for a video interview OR in creating your individual video bio (an introduction you can use in your networking efforts and a complement to your resume that may be used by the Career Centre to highlight you to employers).

In this interactive 2-hour session, you’ll learn the finer points of how this technology works, how to craft your messaging, and how to appear at your best to win the video interview and create an effective video bio.

3. MBA Resume Rehab: Beyond the 1 Page Rotman Resume

January 29th, 3:30 to 6 pm – RSVP in RCareer!

Welcome to Rotman Class of 2019!

Welcome Class of 2019! We look forward to meeting you during the month of August. While most of your career preparation will begin in your foundations term, there is much you can do to get ahead before your arrive at Rotman. Most of the reading and exercises contained through the Career Section of the Pre-Insider, are optional, however we highly recommend that you take the time now to dive further into career exploration and self-assessment to put you in the right frame of mind.  It is more difficult to find the time and head space to do these types of exercises once your academic term begins. These exercises will help you not only in your initial career coaching sessions but they will serve as important career management tools throughout your time at Rotman and beyond. Career Exploration

Looking to validate your current career interests or explore new roles and industries? This section will provide you with resources to help you narrow your career focus, determine your “fit” for these roles, identify any requirement “gaps” (i.e. key skill sets, designations, experiences which you do not currently have) and get you thinking about an action plan to bridge these.

Both the Industry and Function sheets (PDFs) below are meant to provide you with a “bite-sized” view of the industry and the field, along with additional resources for you to consider in exploring them at a deeper level. MBA students are expected to become a ‘student’ of their industry and function, and these sheets will help you in that preparation.
