Day of Pink is the international day against bullying, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, and transmisogyny. It was started in Nova Scotia when 2 straight high school students witnessed a gay student in a pink shirt being bullied. The 2 students intervened, but wanted to do more to prevent homophobic & transphobic bullying. They decided to purchase pink shirts, and a few days later got everyone at school to arrive wearing pink, standing in solidarity.
At Rotman, we celebrate the Day of Pink every year. Run fully by first year students, Day of Pink counts with a series of events and activities, including our traditional pink shirts.
In 2019, we had a collaboration with GATE (The Institute for Gender and The Economy), co-hosting a talk by Professor Lee Airton. We also sold Rotman-branded pink t-shirts, achieving the remarkable number of more than 200 shirts sold only in the pre-sale period.
We invite everyone to wear pink during the second Wednesday of April, wherever you are. It’s an opportunity to take a stand against bullying and all sorts of discrimination.
