Similar to last year we will have five rounds of applications. We review applications according to the Rounds below, and commit to extending decisions no later than the corresponding decision deadlines.

Fall 2015 Intake Application Deadlines:

Round

Application   Deadline Decision   Deadline

1

Monday,   November 3, 2014 Friday,   December 12, 2014

2

Monday,   January 12, 2015 Friday,   February 27, 2015

3

Monday,   March 2, 2015 Friday,   April 17, 2015

4

We would recommend applying when you have worked to make your application as strong as possible, regardless of the deadline.  We often get questions about application strategy, and I wanted to clearly address this by confirming that there is no advantage (or subsequent strategy) associated with targeting a particular Round! So, submit early if you are ready, but we expect to continue to review a large bulk of submissions in every deadline. We expect to have capacity in the class, and scholarship budget, available throughout the cycle despite the reality that both seats in the Program and scholarship dollars are allocated as we move through applications.

One additional recommendation – To be considered for specific Combined Program awards we advise applicants to the JD/MBA, MGA/MGA, Skoll/MBA and Pharma/MBA Programs to apply by the Round Two deadline. All international applicants are highly encouraged to apply by Round Three in order to ensure ample time for visa processing once accepted into the program.

Our new essay questions, are posted for our 2015 Admissions cycle along with some tweaks to our Reference section. Watch for our next blog to learn more about what we are looking for and how you can put forward the best possible application.

On behalf of the Rotman Recruitment and Admissions Team I want to let you know we are so looking forward to reviewing your applications for entry into Rotman in the fall of 2015!

Congratulations to the recipients of the Rotman Regional Awards!

Leigh Gauthier, Director of Recruitment & Admissions for the Rotman Full-Time MBA programIn one of my first official duties as Director of Recruitment and Admissions, I have the pleasure of announcing the Rotman Regional awards. • Canada
  • USA
  • Latin America/Mexico
  • Europe
  • Middle East/Africa
  • India

At Rotman we value diversity of ideas. One of the many benefits of studying in a program with such a global reach is the interesting students that choose to make Rotman their home for 2 years.

Facts about these award winners:

  • They have demonstrated exemplary leadership in both professional and extracurricular endeavours such as master’s level bridge playing or serving at an NGO focused on healthcare and education
  • They have worked in / studied in countries including Canada, China, Colombia, India, Israel, Mexico, Russia, the UK and the US
  • They have work experience from many areas including finance, logistics, product management and consulting

Will you be one of our next award winners? Applications for the Full-Time Rotman MBA open next week! We look forward to reading your applications and meeting you at one of our many MBA tours or Open Houses. I think I am going to enjoy my tour of duty in Admissions this year!

The Capstone Course at Rotman

Michael Moses - Assistant Director, Recruitment & AdmissionsThe final six weeks of the first year of the Rotman curriculum is what we call the “Capstone Term.” In this term, firms come to Rotman and present our students with a real business challenge they are facing today. For the Capstone Course in this term, our students are then tasked with coming up with solutions and presenting them to the firms facing those business challenges. In other words, our students participate in live cases with firms who in the past have included Labatt (AB InBev), the Bank of Montreal, among others.

Through these live cases, our students get the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of employers and get comfortable tackling real world, messy, ambiguous problems, much like what will be expected from them from the first day on the job post-MBA.  –This is in stark contrast to the “prepackaged” cases that one downloads from a website from other business schools which are designed to take students down one particular line of thinking to arrive at one specific conclusion (and of course, the real business world is not quite as neatly packaged !).

We’ve received a lot of great press about the Capstone Course so what follows are some handy links to help you better understand it and how it helps our students become better problem solvers:

From the co-designers of the Capstone Course, Professors Mara Lederman and Bernardo Blum:

From our students who have participated in the capstone course:

Hopefully this gives you a sense of the huge benefit the Capstone term gives our students to  help them stand out from their peers across the world!
