Coffee Chats

We believe that conversations are the best way for students to know about organizations and for organizations to talk about their strategy and vision to students.

Q: I’ve just arrived at Rotman and I keep hearing that I need to do coffee chats! What is a coffee chat?

A: A coffee chat is generally simply a one-on-one conversation, called a coffee chat because it is easily performed over a coffee. They are somewhat informal conversations that are less structured, but are still filled with valuable nougats such as insights into someone’s day to day, and company culture. You should always be prepared with questions prior to a coffee chat, but don’t necessary need to follow a fixed format.

Q: How is a coffee chat different from finding a buddy or a mentor?

A: A buddy or mentorship program tends to be much longer. A coffee chat is just one meeting, usually less than an hour in length. These coffee chats tend to lead to additional introductions as well, meaning
