Course Mission

This course will focus on corporate financial management in an international context. We begin with a brief overview of the nature of international business activities and the evolution of multinational enterprises. Next is an introduction to multinational tax issues, international trade and international trade finance. We then cover the foreign exchange market and exchange rate determination, as well as other international financial markets and instruments. This sets the stage for learning about a variety of international financial management topics, including foreign exchange exposure measurement and management, financing the global firm, and foreign direct investment decisions.

Instructional Approach:

A combination of lecture, technical problem solving and case analyses will be used. Selected cases will highlight a variety of industries and international activities, creating interesting opportunities to apply the course materials.

Format

The course is offered in person in an intensive format during May 1 – 12 with evening classes, 6-9:30pm.

  • Classes will be in person, with the exception of Wednesday May 10, when we will meet online. Please allow in your calendars for the May 10 class to run until 10 pm if necessary, to complete the course materials.
  • Optional Q&A sessions will be offered on Thursday evenings, online, in preparation for Friday tests.
  • On Friday May 5, we will divide our time between a term test (2 hours) and an in-person lecture that sets the stage for week 2.

Students are welcome to email the instructor at any time with questions about the course materials and will be answered promptly. Asynchronous recordings and Zoom sessions will complement in-person learning.
