I am passionate about continuous improvement and strive to find the best solutions for organizations and clients. I am equipped with the CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional) and CAPM (Certified Associate in Project Management) designations, which give me a comprehensive perspective to maximize supply chain efficiency across various projects. I am constantly looking to address complex business challenges in a dynamic setting, utilizing my analytical skills, leadership abilities, and adaptable mindset.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy practicing yoga and barre in my free time, as well as hiking and being near bodies of water which bring me peace and calmness.

What’s your best experience with ROMA?

One of the best experiences I have had with ROMA was participating in the ASCM case competition on inventory management and investment. The case competition was a fantastic opportunity to work with and learn from classmates outside of my academic team, and to form lasting relationships with them. Thanks to our diverse backgrounds, we were able to come up with more innovative solutions and gain a deeper understanding of complex operations issues. The networking sessions were another highlight of the experience, as I got to chat with like-minded professionals and learn from their career paths, broadening my perspective on the scope and depth of operations management roles.

What is one tip you have for the incoming class?

It’s completely normal to feel like you need some time off or experience imposter syndrome, especially during your first year. However, there’s no need to be afraid. Remember that taking a break and resting is perfectly fine, as long as you eventually get back up and face whatever challenges are waiting for you. Keep pushing forward, and don’t forget to enjoy the journey!

My one tip for the first year would be time management! There will be so many opportunities for self-development, whether it is from the program itself or from the clubs! Prioritize skills and experience you want to hone and explore! But overall, I believe you will do great!

VP Industry Relations
Ton Quachton.quach@rotman.utoronto.ca

Before pursuing my MBA, I worked in the Production department at Uniqlo, Japan’s largest apparel retailer. I have an extensive background spanning eight years across Japan, China, and Vietnam. My expertise encompasses product development, production planning, process improvement, and quality control, contributing significantly to the efficiency and quality enhancements in apparel manufacturing.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy running and cooking. I began running in primary school initially as a way to lose weight, as I was obese at the time. Over the years, running has become a meditative habit for me, helping me maintain clarity during stressful periods and think positively during downtimes. Additionally, I have a passion for cooking, particularly Vietnamese cuisine.

What’s your best experience with ROMA?

My best experience with ROMA has been participating in the Mentorship Program, where I was paired with Jeff, the CEO of a medium-sized company in Ontario. Understanding that I am an international student, Jeff consistently makes an effort to introduce me to the cultural, lifestyle, and business aspects of Canada. Everytime we meet, he always asks “Is there anything I can help you, Ton?” A highlight was a day trip we took to his company’s farm near Niagara Falls, followed by exploring the scenic areas around the Falls. This trip is my most memorable experience since arriving in Canada.

What is one tip you have for the incoming class?

Craft a personalized plan to make the most of your time during your MBA journey. Everyone has their own agenda and you do too. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, take a moment to reflect on why you embarked on this path, the challenges you’ve already overcome, and envision a brighter future for both yourself and your loved ones. Be authentic, kind, and honest in all your interactions. Remember, people may not always tell you how they feel about you, but they will certainly form impressions. These impressions ultimately shape how you are remembered.

Prior to pursuing my MBA, I delved into market research at Ipsos, focusing on enhancing customer experience within the automotive and transportation sectors. My role involved executing both qualitative and quantitative research projects to elevate customer satisfaction and improve operational processes. Subsequently, I transitioned into the ICT industry as a project manager, where I concentrated on operational management and spearheading digital transformation initiatives.

What are your hobbies?

I find happiness and adventure in exploring natural landscapes through activities such as hiking, camping, and cycling. Swimming is another passion of mine, and I’ve had the exhilarating experience of crossing Sun Moon Lake, which is 3000 meters long and surrounded by breathtaking mountain vistas. There’s truly nothing quite like the satisfaction of swimming amidst nature’s beauty.

What’s your best experience with ROMA?

The Mentorship Program surpassed my expectations, offering an invaluable opportunity to connect with extraordinary and successful businesswomen like Heidi, forging a remarkable mentor-mentee bond. Heidi’s guidance provided insights into the Canadian career landscape. I eagerly anticipate nurturing our relationship beyond the end of the program.

What is one tip you have for the incoming class?

Embrace every opportunity to connect with your peers and immerse yourself in unexplored realms of knowledge. Participating in club events not only facilitates career growth but also fosters meaningful connections and enriching experiences. It’s the perfect recipe for a fulfilling MBA journey.

Roland Markgraf

VP Operations
Roland Markgrafroland.markgraf@rotman.utoronto.ca

I received my undergraduate degree in microbiology from the University of British Columbia. After graduating I worked at a family owned Cidery making alcoholic apple cider. After taking a strong interest in the operations aspects of running a cidery I realized that I wanted to further develop my skills and transition into an operations role at a large, corporate company. This is why I am now pursuing my MBA at Rotman.

What are your hobbies?

I have always enjoyed being active and exploring nature. During the summer I go camping, hiking, and fishing. In the winter I am an avid Skier. During my undergrad I played rugby for the men’s team. Since moving to Toronto for school, I have mostly enjoyed spending time with friends and classmates and trying to develop my appreciation and understanding of the business environment.

What’s your best experience with ROMA?

My best experience in ROMA so far has been the company industry night where I had the chance to meet with professionals from Amazon, Canadian Tire, Hubson’s Bay, Scotiabank, and several other large companies. It was extremely helpful to learn about the different types of operations-based roles in vastly different companies. I was also able to branch out and gain several interesting connections that have led to possible full-time offers post graduation.

What is one tip you have for the incoming class?

Be involved with clubs and club activities. If you join a club, do not just sign up and attend events. Also try to meet people within the club and build connections with people who have similar fields of interest. Do not worry about grades, making connections and improving social skills is much more important.
