1. Purpose
This establishes the people, assumptions and targets for the team that will constitute the Rotman Operations Management Association.
2. Background
The mission of the Rotman Operations Management Association (ROMA) is to empower MBA students with a basic understanding of the tools of operations management and general management, focusing on being successful in all career opportunities.
Club Goals – Guiding Principles
1. Aid members in expanding their knowledge about career opportunities in operations
2. Help members network and access recruitment opportunities with companies from across Canada
3. Provide training on practical operations management tools and tech (including Supply Chain Management (SCM))
4. Help members create professional networks within the operations management domain
5. Increase club visibility within the Rotman student community
6. Curate a safe and fun space to communicate with immediate school seniors and alumni
7. Create offerings that help members see themselves grow with the club – true value-add
8. Collaborate with other clubs where ‘operations’ overlap to provide visibility to operations career opportunities in different industries
As a club supported by Rotman’s Graduate Business Council (GBC), the ROMA further considers the following as part of its mandate:
a. To represent the interests of the MBA students at Rotman
b. In cooperation with Rotman administration and the GBC, to add value to students’ club experience at Rotman;
c. To further engagement and school spirit within the Rotman community.
3. Team members and responsibilities
President
- Ensure the smooth functioning of the club
- Oversee finances
- Liaise with key strategic partners and other operations related organization
- Encourage recruitment of Rotman Operations Management Association
- Ensuring smooth elections and hand-over to the next year’s team
- Preparation of the consolidated plan for the year and overview execution
- Promote sponsorship and partnership with companies for events and recruitment activities
- Work with the advisory team for constant inputs and feedback
- Lead and conduct periodic meetings with the Council as well as convey communication of matters impacting ROMA’s activities
- Liaison with Rotman affiliates in matters relating to ROMA and ultimately accountable for all club matters
VP, Career Development
- Coordinate with the VP of Industry Relations and the VP of Finance to develop plans for student career development programs within Rotman and ensure execution.
- Plan and execute activities for all the student career development programs, i.e. Interview prep, mentorship matching, etc.
- Assist VP Industry Relations to develop partnerships with external partners to promote club activities
- Timely communication to the President
VP, Communications
- Communicate upcoming events, club updates, career opportunities, training opportunities, and issues of concern to club members
- Aid in the development of successful events and overall ROMA’s presence by communicating with the Rotman community through flyers, WhatsApp, LinkedIn Updates, etc.
- Update ROMA LinkedIn, Instagram, and Website
VP, Finance
- Responsible for budgeting and allocation of club funds, maintaining records of cash flows
- Report financial reports to GBC when needed
- Assist with event planning and outreach
VP, Industry Relations
- Build partnerships with companies, alumni and other institutions to secure event participation and potentially recruitment from Rotman
- Coordinate with VP of Career Development to ensure smooth planning and execution of ROMA mentorship and resume review programs
- Organize and maintain ROMA’s industry contact list
VP, Operations
- Planning and execution of activities for all Case Competitions and professional development training
- Coordinate with other members to raise awareness of operations management and supply chain management
- Manage first-year reps
- Manage member information and contacts
VP, Extended MBA
- Ensure Part-time & ME MBA students’ engagement
- Communicate club activities and updates, including upcoming events, and career opportunities, to Parttime & ME MBA students
- Assist VP Industry Relations VP Career Development on communications with external partners
4. Board of Advisors
a. Provide feedback regarding students in their companies
b. Provide feedback on the master plan
