University of Toronto Graduate Students’ Union (UTGSU)
The Graduate Students’ Union at the University of Toronto represents over 17,000 students studying in over 80 departments. For many years this union has advocated for increased student representation and funding. The GSU also provides health and dental insurance for graduate students automatically. If students have adequate coverage already, opt-out of these plans in advance of the deadline to receive a refund.
Ulife Student Life
Ulife is a one-stop website listing a large and diverse directory of student clubs, organizations, activities and opportunities on all three campuses.
Grad Escapes
Run in partnership with the Graduate Students’ Union, Grad Escapes invites students to explore the cultural riches of Toronto in the company of other graduate students – at the lowest prices possible. Events run year-round, often include a social component, and are hosted by one of the Grad Escapes staff or volunteers. Events range from discounted tickets (usually <$20) to operas and sports games to free ice-skating socials, etc.
Athletic Centre and Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport
All University of Toronto students paying incidental fees are automatically members of the Athletic Centre, a multi-use health and fitness facility, and the Goldring Centre for High Performance Sport. Membership is valid from approximately September–April each year. Students also have access to the state-of-the-art facilities at the Varsity Centre, which hosts a range of drop-in recreational activities. Between Year 1 and Year 2 students may purchase a summer membership at a discounted rate.
Hart House
With membership for all University of Toronto students paying incidental fees, Hart House offers a recreational athletics facility, as well as theatre, musical performances, fine arts, a wide range of student clubs, and a variety of food options, all at reasonable prices.
University of Toronto Graduate Students’ Union (UTGSU) Gym
The UTGSU Gym is reserved for graduate student use. Students can sign up in September for a non-competitive drop-in volleyball or basketball league, offered in the evenings once a week, as well as singles badminton or quiet activities during the day.
Health and Wellness Resources
Rotman School of Management has a Wellness Counsellor & Coordinator available to its students Monday-Friday between September and May.
Contact Health & Wellness, 416-978-8030 ext. 5, to book an appointment with a Wellness Counsellor or for questions about the counselling service. Students can request that they would like to meet with the “Rotman Management Wellness Counsellor” to access counselling on campus.
Students can also choose to see a counsellor during the academic year and over the summer at the Health & Wellness Centre, located at 700 Bay St., during its hours of operation.
Numerous additional health, wellness, and counselling services are offered through the University of Toronto’s Health and Wellness Centre.
- You can access free mental health and wellbeing services at Health & Wellness such as same day counselling, brief counselling, medical care, skill-building workshops, and drop-in peer support. You can also meet with a Wellness Navigation Advisor who can connect you with other campus and community services and support.

University of Toronto Graduate Students’ Union (UTGSU) Mental Health Support
University of Toronto Graduate Students’ Union (UTGSU) provides mental health-related resources and services to students, advocates for graduate students’ mental health, and creates partnerships in the community. Offerings include events (e.g. art events, film screenings, talks), the annual Open Minds conference, free yoga, and monthly Mental Health at the Grad Room. Graduate students who are TAs also have access to extended health benefits.
Dental Care
Dental services performed by supervised dentistry students at a reduced rate. Services include pediatric, emergency, and general dentistry and orthodontics.
Mindful Moments
Maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations and environment through mindfulness can help you increase your relaxation and resiliency. Drop-in sessions on campus run from September–March.
Family Life
Family Care Office
The Family Care Office offers advice and assistance with childcare and elder care support. Workshops on childcare, parenting, and elder care advocacy for student parents are also available. Find on- and off-campus child care services, and access confidential guidance, resources, referrals, educational programming, and advocacy on family-related issues.
Family Resource Centre at the University of Toronto Early Learning Centre
A child and parent drop-in centre on the St. George campus for children up to five years of age. No registration required.
On-Campus Child Care Centres
The on-campus child care centres are staffed by professionally qualified early childhood educators. Each centre is separately incorporated as a not-for-profit and is licensed by the Province of Ontario. Childcare subsidies are available. All of the centres give priority to University of Toronto families. To enroll, contact each centre directly to be placed on its waiting list.
Child and Youth Athletic Programs
Recreational athletic programs for kids, including Camp U of T and Junior Blues, offered by University of Toronto’s Faculty of Kinesiology and Physical Education.
Safety and Diversity
Centre for International Experience
The Centre for International Experience (CIE) provides non-academic services to international students at University of Toronto, including student advising, information services, immigration, finances, accommodation, health insurance, legal issues, etc. Where appropriate, referrals are made to other services both within and outside the university.
Anti-Racism and Cultural Diversity Office
The office is mandated to offer programs and services to students, faculty and staff. The office engages collaboratively with stakeholders on campus to enable the University’s academic mission through the integration of its commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity.
Sexual and Gender Diversity Office
The Sexual and Gender Diversity Office provides information and programs in support of LGBTQ students, staff, and faculty of the University. The Office works in partnership with departments and offices on campus to provide academic, social and cultural supports to LGBTQ students.

Community Safety Office
The Office responds to all personal safety concerns and provides consultation and training to those managing difficult behavior, workshops on a variety of topics, and self-defence courses.
Sexual Harassment Office
The Sexual Harassment Office handles complaints of harassment based on sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression at the University of Toronto.
Housing
Graduate House
The only residence at University of Toronto reserved exclusively for graduate and second-entry professional faculty students. Provides accommodation for single students sharing same-gender, three- and four-person furnished suites. Please see the website for eligibility requirements and application information.
Massey College
Massey College is a graduate students’ residential community affiliated with, but independent from, the University of Toronto. It provides a unique, congenial, and intellectual environment for grad students in all disciplines.
Housing (Student Success Centre)
This is a resource for on and off-campus housing at the University of Toronto. It can offer the information, resources, and personal assistance students need to meet their housing goals. Students can visit the office to work with a member of the team one-on-one or check out the online resources at their convenience.
Student Family Housing
Housing for student families is available through at 35 Charles Street. Student Family Housing is committed to fostering a family-friendly learning and working environment and provides information, guidance, and referral services to students who need childcare and assistance with other matters.

Administrative Services
Accessible Campus Online Resource Network (ACORN)
ACORN—the Accessible Campus Online Resource Network—contains data relating to a student’s admission to and academic performance at the University of Toronto. Students are able to access ACORN to change personal information (address and telephone numbers), obtain fees invoices and tax receipts, and other functions.
Students use their UTORid (located on their TCard) and password to log onto ACORN. It is the student’s responsibility to keep their personal information up-to-date at all times.
Student Card (TCard)
The University of Toronto student card—TCard—is the official university identification and is issued to all new students. It provides access to resources such as campus libraries, the Athletic Centre, and Housing (Student Success Centre). It is also required for identification during exams and to pick up assignments and course materials at Rotman. Students will need photo identification and proof of citizenship to obtain a TCard. Note that, in addition to providing access to resources at the university, the TCard account is also linked to students’ wireless access account.
Official Name Change
The legal name that is on record with the School is the name used when applying to the University of Toronto. Students wishing to make a legal name change may do so by visiting the School of Graduate Studies in-person (65 St. George Street) to make the request. The requested legal name change must be supported by one of the following documents:
- Birth certificate
- Baptismal certificate
- Marriage certificate
- Change-of-name certificate issued by the Registrar General of Ontario
Transcripts
Information on ordering official transcripts is on the University Registrar’s Office Transcript Services site.
Parking
Underground parking is conveniently located under the Rotman building. Pay and Display parking is available for the posted rates. Monthly/Seasonal parking permits are also available for sale through Parking and Transportation Services.
