- The course is comprised of 12 weekly 2-hour class sessions, 7-8 of which are focused on teaching about consulting, and 4-5 of which are dedicated to coaching teams and providing ‘dry run’ presentations before final client presentations
- Life Science and Healthcare leaders will be brought in as guest speakers
- Additional weekly coaching meetings are offered as touchpoints to support team efforts on their consulting projects
Course Mission
The objectives of the course are to provide insights into healthcare consulting through a mix of in-class and practical field application experiences.
Course Scope
As the winner of the 2021 Rotman Teaching Award, this course will expose you to the craft and process of management consulting, and will further develop your leadership, client relationship building, and teamwork skills. Through in-class sessions you will learn about consulting from 6 senior consulting leaders, who will also serve as coaches for student teams for the field application.
The field application takes the form of a consulting project in a real health or life sciences organization, where students will be working directly with clients on a consulting engagement and will learn how knowledge must be adapted to fit real problems and opportunities. Through this project, you will experience the “art and science” of consulting and will gain hands-on experience, applying the functional skills and tools learned in previous coursework to:
- Frame client-defined issues in ways that make them tractable;
- Identify feasible but creative solutions in complex organizational settings;
- Deliver a practical recommendation and beginning to influence its implementation
