Course Mission
Grand Challenges Canada (GCC) is Canada’s largest impact for innovation funder for health and humanitarian innovations in developing and emerging markets. Based on starting point assumptions, the students (a team of 3) will develop a multi-year forecasting model in Excel (and/or PowerBI) that will mark a pivotal step in kicking off strategy execution for Grand Challenges Canada (GCC).
Overall, the development of this forecast/investment model will empower the organization to navigate complex decision-making with clarity and confidence, driving sustainable impact over the long term.
Course Scope
The tool will leverage a set of assumptions and initial inputs used to decide a 5-year impact projection upon which the strategy is based to develop the following:
- A multi-year forecast over 5-7 years of annual and quarterly impact projections based on key funding decisions made/planned by the organization;
- A way to change funding and portfolio composition and re-project potential impact outcomes;
- A way to simulate the outcomes of different investment allocations and funding levels, allowing stakeholders to identify optimal pathways for achieving their impact targets; and
- Incorporate ways to test the robustness of the strategy under changing market conditions or external/internal risks, enhancing the organization’s ability to adapt and thrive in dynamic environments.
