Instructor Bio
Jennifer Lee is an Executive-in-Residence who will be teaching this course for the fourth time. As the Vice-Chairwoman and Senior Partner at Deloitte, Jennifer utilizes her expertise in strategy and mergers and acquisitions to transform business models and create value for her clients. She has experience serving global consumer clients and private equity owned operating boards and CEOs, drawing upon her international background – including her work helping the under-privileged population obtain microfinancing in in Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan. Previously, she was the managing partner for Deloitte Canada’s Emerging Growth businesses and addressed significant client and market issues such as trust, climate change, and digital identity.
Jennifer has experience working in a variety of corporate roles with AT&T in Hong Kong, Hewlett Packard in Germany, Universal Studios Canada and Bell Internet.
Jennifer’s leadership extends beyond her role at Deloitte. She orchestrated Deloitte Global’s NextGen Program, which aimed to develop successful female executives for global leadership roles. She also played a crucial role in leading Deloitte’s global pandemic response. Jennifer’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion stems from her own immigrant background, and she actively champions these causes. She serves on the boards of Trillium Health Partners and Windmill Microlending and is part of the GROW Women’s Giving Circle.
Jennifer’s educational background includes a BA from the University of Waterloo and an MBA from the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Business.
Target Audience
This course is structured around the management consulting client assignment (The Project). This course is for those who are a global citizen and wants to equip themselves with tools and frameworks to lead through uncertainty. You must enjoy working with a team, develop big ideas and are eager to complete primary and secondary research to help clients find answers to difficult problems. This course is for those who wish to understand the management consulting industry or build a career in the industry or for those who wish to build management consulting skills to bring back to their respective organizations.
Prerequisites
- Strategy and/or management consulting courses are beneficial foundations for this project-based course.
- Strong PowerPoint skills are required.
- This course will accurately reflect a management consulting project. You will work in teams and build your network with clients, therefore strong in person attendance will be required. Classes will not be recorded, however, there are select classes or client check ins that may be virtual.
Format
2.5 hour long sessions every Tuesday and Thursdays between June 10th, 2025 and July 22nd, 2025 (approximately 6 weeks in length).
Please expect 5-8 hours per week for the project.
This course will consist of a mix of virtual and in-person classes with guest lectures, and collaboration sessions with teams, mentors, and clients.
Course Mission
The core focus on this experiential course is to allow students to experience what it is like to complete a management consulting client assignment for an external organization. This is in combination with lectures, featured guest presentations, discussion, Q&A sessions and self-assessment for students’ leadership style.
You are expected to achieve the following learning outcomes for this course:
- Learn how resilient organizations establish resilient leadership, identify and shape complex real world scenarios;
- Learn how to evaluate extensive amount of information and synthesize into scenarios;
- Gain exposure to real world C-suite executives who face uncertainty on a daily basis;
- Learn how to work with real-world business mentors, who will act as sounding boards for your growth thesis within the final presentation to your C-suite client;
- Gain experience in presenting a compelling case to a broader audience and to a C-suite client; and
- Gain experience in tackling a real-world management consulting client problem.
Course Scope
Students will be asked to begin the course by identifying their leadership style via an online tool, Business Chemistry. This leadership style assessment will permeate as a theme throughout the rest of the course for students to understand how to communicate their solution to their C-Suite client for the course project.
The Project
You will be taught frameworks to prepare for your project during the initial half of the course to apply a solution to your client’s real-world problem. Please anticipate between 5-8 hours per week for this course project.
First, student teams of 4-5 will be asked to select one of their two organizations as your “client. These clients will be C-suite leaders who are leading their organizations through global market forces for growth.
During this project, you are to apply the framework related to scenario-shaping learned throughout the early portion of the course. The class will also host Deloitte’s Global/and or Canadian Chief Economists who advises the global business community to assist students in shaping their scenarios for their respective clients.
Finally, your team will be assigned senior mentors from the business community to help guide and give feedback as you debate, discuss, and collaborate on identifying real-world scenarios and relaying such scenarios, leading to a solution for your client via PowerPoint presentation. You will also meet periodically with the instructor and your respective clients to adjust your proposed solution as needed.
The final presentation of your solution will be held on last day of the course where the C-suite clients will hear your proposed solution to their problem statements, giving students feedback and asking questions.
Lastly, guest speakers are a combination of industry executives and speakers from the professional services and private equity community:
- Global chief economists in Canada and from around the world who advise C-suite on the changing geopolitical, social, and economic shifts.
- CXO executives from tech and consumer industries.
